Find and replace text online

Replace matching text in a passage, see the live replacement count, and control whether capitalization or whole-word boundaries matter.

Update repeated entries across your full text block.

Output

Your result will appear here when you enter text.

0 replacements

Match case and whole word

Match case is off by default, so a search for “draft” also matches “Draft”. Turn it on when capitalization matters. Whole word is also off by default; turn it on to prevent a short term from matching inside a longer word.

Whole-word boundaries recognize Unicode letters and numbers, so searching for “ação” does not match inside “reação”. Underscores also count as part of a word.

Example input

Ação e reação. ação!

Result

With Whole word on and Match case off, “ação” matches “Ação” and the final “ação”, but not the letters inside “reação”.

Replacement text is inserted literally

The Find field is treated as plain text, not as a regular expression. Replacement markers such as

amp;, $1, and $ are also inserted literally; they do not refer to a matched string or capture group.

Review the count and result

The number below the checkboxes updates as you change the input, search term, replacement, or options. An empty Find field makes no changes and reports zero replacements. Copy and Download use the replaced text shown in Output.

Frequently asked questions

Does Whole word support accented words?

Yes. It uses Unicode-aware letter and number boundaries, so “ação” does not match inside “reação”.

What happens if Find is empty?

The input is left unchanged and the replacement count is zero.

Are
amp;, $1, or $ interpreted specially in Replace?

No. The replacement is inserted as literal text, including dollar signs.
